I build AquaGauge's calculators and turn numbers from hundreds of real hobbyist tanks into straight answers on stocking and water chemistry — not rules of thumb.

I've been keeping freshwater aquariums for over eight years. I started out trusting the old "one inch of fish per gallon" rule and whatever the forums said — and lost fish learning why that advice fails. So I built AquaGauge around one idea: answer the common questions with what people actually run in real tanks, and show the math instead of asking you to take it on faith.
I build the calculators, aggregate the real-tank dataset, and edit every guide myself. The numbers come from measured data, the care advice is checked against authoritative sources, and where the data is thin I say so. AquaGauge is a tool, not a store — see the methodology and how I choose products.
What I write about
- Stocking — how many fish actually fit, by tank size and species.
- Water chemistry — temperature, pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate from real tanks.
- Real-tank data — what hundreds of hobbyists run, instead of folklore.
Off the clock
I love fish and dogs. When I'm not staring at a tank or a spreadsheet, I'm usually outside with my dog.
